Marseille is a blend of a typical western culture in a Mediterranean setting and an increasingly strong African culture, especially a North African culture. Though Marseille has some very wealthy areas, overall it is a poorer city within France. Traditional Catholicism is still present though waining as secularism increases, though Marseille is projected to be the first major majority-Muslim city in the coming decades. It's a very diverse, multi-cultural city with 2,600 years of history.
