Approximately 97-98% of the population subscribes to Islam. The remaining 2% is composed of Christians (Greek Orthodox, Roman Catholic, Syrian Orthodox, Coptic Orthodox, Armenian Orthodox, and finally Protestants). Evangelical Protestants are a slim minority of the population and are usually in tension with other nominal Christians. There are some churches present around the country that worship openly on Fridays, Saturdays, and sometimes Sundays. The majority of Protestant churches are around 30-50 people and more often struggle financially, doctrinally, or in internal squabbles.
